Palliative care is the active total care of a child’s body, mind and spirit, and involves providing support for the entire family. It begins when a life-threatening condition is diagnosed and continues regardless of whether or not a child receives curative treatment for the disease. Efforts are directed at alleviating a child’s physical, emotional, social, psychological and spiritual distress. Care is managed by an interdisciplinary team and can be provided in a hospital, facility or at home.
